Planning applications lodged with the council’s planning department up to this week are detailed in the list embedded below.
Applications which are of interest this week include:
- A former chiropractic clinic in Roseburn may become a single two-storey house if planning permission is granted. The clinic was run as part of the Wight Chiropractic Clinic which was established in the city in 1924. Dr Graeme Wight took over the practice from his father and in 1989 the Roseburn clinic opened. Dr Wight has now retired aged 90 but his son Stuart Wight operates the practice from Torphichen Place in Haymarket. The site has been sold on and the current owner wants to make internal changes to convert the building to a home. Flood defence works are in place to protect it in the event of rising water levels in the Water of Leith. Vehicles can be parked on site under the upper floor where the living room will be situated with five bedrooms and other public rooms on the ground floor. Neighbouring properties are mainly residential, with car showrooms and offices across the Water of Leith on Corstorphine Road. The site lies outside the Coltbridge and Wester Coates Conservation Area. 26/00465/FUL
- An application has been made to build a six storey block of student flats on a gap site at 4 Robertson Avenue in Gorgie.
- A new shopfront will be created at 16 Multrees Walk where Alo Yoga are going to move in.
Any property owner seeking to build, improve or alter their home or commercial premises must have the correct consents. This begins with a planning application and usually progresses all the way to a completion certificate.
Some applications for large developments such as purpose built student accommodation have been referred to the government Reporter after refusal by the council. Alterations to some buildings may also need listed building consent which is dealt with simultaneously.
There is a class of alterations which are considered “permitted developments” and will not need any planning permission. There is more guidance here.
