Fife Flyers saw victory snatched away when Manchester Storm roared back from a 4-2 deficit going into the final minute of their home Elite League clash.
Coach Jamie Russell saw his men ship two goals to send the game into sudden death overtime and then Flyers lost the game after a shootout.
Earlier, Fife and Manchester came into the game following Saturday night defeats, Flyers losing 4-1 at Sheffield Steelers and Storm skidding to a 6-4 reverse at their Storm Shelter.
The action started early and Flyers’ skipper, Garet Hunt, was called for fighting after 2min 18sec. He was handed a five-minute penalty as the aggressor.
Then, the visitors hit two quick goals. Nick Welsh was set up by Gary Haden and Brendon Clavelle for the opening goal. Time 2min 18sec and Storm converted a second after 4min 55sec on the power play. Dennis Busby was fed by J D Dudek (cor) and Haden.
The scoreline stayed the same into the third when Fife hit back.
Kyle Locke was called for hooking and Fife capitalised. Former National Hockey League forward, Milan Lucic, was on the mark after 46min 29sec on the power play with Justin Ducharme and Giordano Finoro setting up the welcome strike.
Anton Karlsson levelled things up at The Fife Ice Arena with a goal on 53min 52sec. Keaton Jameson provided the pass to set up a grandstand finish in a game of few shots.
And it got even better for home fans when Flyers’ Ian Scheid slotted after being set-up by Ethan Somoza for a 3-2 scoreline. Time 56min 54sec.
Elsewhere, Dundee Stars edged Guildford Flames 4-3 with Jonathan McBean scoring the game-winner after 50min 34sec to temporarily move the Tayside team off the bottom of the ten-strong table with Fife still playing.
Flyers then added a fourth through Finoro and they looked set to secure the two points. Lucic provided the ammunition with the time of 58min 52sec on an empty net after Storm gambled by withdrawing their netminder to give them six skaters.
Drew DeRidder as restored between the pipes after the goal and Storm fancied their chances. They pulled one back when Haden netted with Stephen Johnson and Tyler Hinam assisting with 55 seconds remaining.
Storm then withdrew DeRidder for a second time with 25 seconds left on the clock and a video review was initiated by the referees on a goal scored by storm with one second remaining. It was to check if the puck had entered the net before or after the whistle had been blown.
The decision was that it had levelling the score at 4-4 and sending the game into sudden death overtime. Johnson was the scorer with Welsh assisting.
De Ridder was restored between the pipes and the sides were still deadlocked after the extra session.
On to a shootout and Haden fired the puck behind Flyers’ netminder Shane Owen to complete a sensational Storm comeback sending Flyers back down to the bottom of the table with 14 points, the same as Dundee but the Tayside team have five games in hand and a better goal difference.
