Hibs ‘star man’ Martin Boyle is targeting a derby day victory to spark a consistent run of form heading into the new year.
The experienced forward has found the back of the net eight times this season — which includes an important equaliser last weekend at Tannadice — but is still looking to add more goals to his game as Hibs look upwards in the league.
Hibs are sitting fifth in the table as we welcome Hearts to Easter Road on Saturday, and Boyle is eyeing a win against the high-flyers.
“It’s definitely the one that we look for in the calendar,” he said. “And obviously the way they’re playing now doesn’t go unnoticed, they’re playing really well. It’s up to us to focus on ourselves, and obviously we’ll be looking to upset them and get the win.
“[Consistency is] something that we’ve definitely lacked. We know that. We know there’s obviously times of the season where we’ve let games slip away from us. We’ve dropped a lot of points.
“Consistency is definitely key in this league. They’re obviously maintaining that. But we know it’s a derby. It’s the famous old saying that form goes out the window. Hopefully we can play our best and get the result.
“I enjoy all the derbies, minus the defeats. The atmosphere is special. It’s something that you look for at the start of the season. The bragging rights come along with it, the adrenaline, it’s just a buzz to be playing in it. It’s a special game. I’ve played in quite a lot over the years here. I’ve scored in a few, so I have had special memories.”
Hibs have not been able to pull together a formidable run of results as of late, with narrow defeats and frustrating draws picking apart our points total.
Despite this tricky spell, Boyle fully believes he, as well as strike partner Kieron Bowie, can get back to top scoring form and help the team return to a similar vein of form as the beginning of the year.
“I think we are creating chances. I’ve been a bit disappointed with the chances that I’ve missed lately. But, I’d be angry if I wasn’t in those positions. Me and Kieron, we definitely know that.
“It happened last year and we went on a really good run in the turn for us. We need a little bit more consistency as soon as we get a run. I feel like that’s just on our way.
“Hopefully it can start on Saturday and we can get that run together. That’s what we’re looking to do.”
