Grassmarket has reopened following a report of a fire at a property on Heriot Bridge this morning Thursday 11 December 2025.

The incident was reported to police around 10.40am.

Emergency services attended and two people have been taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is not thought to be suspicious.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.28am on Thursday, 11 December to reports of a building fire in Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the city’s Heriot Bridge, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe.

“One appliance remains on scene.

“One casualty was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by Scottish Ambulance Service personnel.”

Police Scotland update 2pm: “Grassmarket has re-opened following a fire at a property on Heriot Bridge, reported to police around 10.40am on Thursday, 11 December.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“Two men were taken to hospital for treatment.

“The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

“Thank you to the public for their patience.”
