MagicFest continues to amaze

The presents may have been opened and the turkey gobbled up, but MagicFest reaches its peak this weekend – with loads for all the family to enjoy.

Since it started on 17 December the 16th annual Edinburgh International Magic Festival has been a huge success.

Among the big hits so far was Shape Shifters, a joyful and visually striking new performance for younger children, with spectacular costumes by designer Alison Brown.

Telling the story of two animal friends, who have to decide what to do when a new creature comes along, it fuseddance, theatre, and jaw-dropping illusions, with creative input from Lea Kyle, world champion of quick-change magic.

And there’s so much more to look forward to according to MagicFest organiser and co-founder Kevin Quantum, who said: “It’s been a fabulous 16th MagicFest so far, with big successes like Shape Shifters, and it all reaches its peak this weekend with some of the very best shows still to come.”

Season’s Greetings

On Christmas Eve we hope you are planning a Christmas with people you love in a warm place. We all know this is not the best time for everyone. There is a housing emergency in Edinburgh, and likely to be a social care emergency any time soon.

We are taking a break from these daily articles but will be back bright and breezy at a date in late January to be confirmed. Meantime our daily news coverage continues and we hope you enjoy reading it. Our January paper has gone to press and will be posted out to all our subscribers shortly. Copies will be available from our stockists from the end of the month onwards.

Happy Christmas to everyone.
