Portobello water polo club’s Joe Mathieson has been selected for the GB under-20 men’s squad preparing for European Championships in Portugal next August.
Joe partly owes his selection to strong performances for the GB under-18 men when he finished third top goal scorer at their European Championships.
In domestic water polo Joe plays with the Portobello under-19 boys who are about to get their Scottish National League campaign underway. Recently he has just been in England with the Portobello men’s team playing in the British Water Polo League, and will be representing Scotland under-18 boys at the EU Nations event later this month.
Joe says: “Highlights for me this year have been the GB under-18 Europeans in Portugal, and the weekend in Wales with Scotland men where we won a very hard-fought international game.
“I’m now looking forward to the challenge of playing in the BWPL with Portobello men and focussing on training hard for the GB under-20s. Hopefully also retaining the BMC cup in December with Porty u19s!”
