Planning matters
The new planning weekly list will be published later today but meantime council officers have issued the reports to be considered on 22 October at the Development Management Sub-Committee.
One relates to the Crosswinds development at Meadowfield Farm on Turnhouse Road where planners recommend approval of a mixed use development including shops, offices, restaurants, cafés, hotels, public houses, non-residential institutions including a primary school, houses and flats with car parking and landscaping. This application was approved in December last year subject to agreement within six months on the level of contributions by the developers. Six months has elapsed but no agreement has yet been reached so a further six months is to be allowed.
This development will introduce a whole new area of Edinburgh – and there will be a footpath to walk to Edinburgh Airport.
Planners have also recommended that a planning application relating to a new restaurant in Lochrin Place should be granted.
The premises at 13 Lochrin Place are currently a shop and this change of use will require a new flue to be installed.
The proposal is described as follows: “No alterations are proposed to the principal elevation but a 400mm galvanised metal ventilation duct to chimney pot level is to be installed to the rear of the tenement along with 2 extract fans for bathrooms on the ground floor.”
Cargilfield School is best in the UK
Cargilfield School on Gamekeeper’s Road has been named the ‘Best Prep School in the UK’ at the prestigious Tatler Schools’ Awards 2026. The award recognises outstanding commitment to providing a nurturing, vibrant, and academically rigorous environment for its students.
The school which teaches children from nursery to 12 years-old was praised for its excellence in attainment and achievement with school nspectors describing the quality of education as “something you would send someone across the country to observe”.
Colinton Community Council drop in sessions
The Colinton Community Council is holding drop in sessions to talk about anything which affects the local community – potholes, communal bins or buses. Anything can be on the agenda.
There is one session today at 10.30am to 11.30am at Colinton Library with other sessions at the same location as follows:
- 15 October 5.30pm to 6.30pm
- 18 October 10am to 11am
- 25 October 10am to 11am

Go cycling with InfraSisters who campaign for safer streets. This is a group of women in Edinburgh who campaign for night-time cycling infrastructure that’s safe and comfortable for women and girls.
The Postal Exchange – opens on Wednesday
An exhibition which opens tomorrow is the result of the artists posting to each other through the mail materials to use in their work which is now about to go on display.
The goal was to spark new creative practices, shake up existing working methods, and encourage playful collaboration. The resulting work -comprising collage, photography, and mixed media – will be exhibited this week in The Postal Exchange exhibition at Leith Makers, from 15 October to 26 October 2025.
This project welcomed artists of varying experience levels and backgrounds. At its core, The Postal Exchange sought to foster creative fun, collaboration, and connecting the artistic community while challenging artists to step outside their usual practices and explore new forms of expression.
In addition to the main exhibition, visitors will be invited to contribute to a living collage wall—a massive blank canvas where the public can join in to create a collective piece of artwork in real-time. A commemorative zine will also accompany the exhibition, capturing the ethos and creative outcomes.
