Ahead of Thursday night’s concert to mark the 45th anniversary of the Eric Liddell Community, the organisation has made a symbolic donation.

The concert will be held in James Gillespie’s High School at 6.30pm. To mark the occasion The Eric Liddell Community have donated the rugby kit which the Eric Liddell 100 team wore to play in the 2024 Melrose Sevens. This was part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary since athlete Eric Liddell won an Olympic Gold in Paris.

John MacMillan, CEO of The Eric Liddell Community,said:“We look forward to welcoming the local community, and those who have been involved with the charity throughout its history, to James Gillespie’s High School on Thursday as we celebrate 45 years of The Eric Liddell Community. To thank James Gillespie’s High School for its support, we were delighted to present the sports department with the iconic Eric Liddell 100 kits that were worn in Melrose, the home of rugby sevens.”

By providing essential dementia care services, support for unpaid carers, and acting as a trusted hub in the local area, The Eric Liddell Community has played an important role in countless lives over the past 45 years and looks forward to creating a memorable evening to showcase the crucial work that the charity has completed in this time.

“We are deeply grateful for the inspiring work the charity does to support individuals and families across Edinburgh, and for the positive impact it continues to have within our local community. It is a privilege for our pupils to be part of this milestone event and to celebrate the enduring legacy of Eric Liddell together.”

The Eric Liddell Community is a registered care charity based in Edinburgh, providing specialist dementia care, tackling loneliness and isolation and also preserving the legacy of Eric Liddell, the Scottish athlete, and missionary, after whom the charity was named when established in 1980.
