The only councillor in Edinburgh who is nominated for an award from the Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) is Cllr Katrina Faccenda.
The Labour councillor elected in 2022 represents Leith and she has been recognised as Innovator of the Year.
The criteria for this category are: “The award winners likely prioritise community well-being, use innovative ideas to drive change, and take a forward-thinking approach to promote sustainable development. They also prioritise social justice and address systemic issues in the community.”
Cllr Faccenda said on Facebook: “Absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for one of the annual LGIU awards. The work of backbench councillors is often undervalued and overlooked so this is important recognition for the work done by all of us on the backbenches.”

Cllr Faccenda is among 40 local councillors from across England, Wales and Scotland have been shortlisted for the 2025 LGIU and CCLA Cllr Awards, the only national awards ceremony dedicated to “celebrating the extraordinary work of councillors”.
Winners will be announced on 18 November at Glasgow City Chambers.
