Local Place Plan registered
The long-established Friends of Midmar Paddock have successfully developed a Local Place Plan for the Paddock – a new type of community-led plan which was introduced recently by The Scottish Government. This allows the community to set out what they would ideally like on a piece of land in their locality or indeed in the whole neighbourhood. The Friends have drafted theirs following a consultation with local people. they delivered 5,000 leaflets to more than 100 streets and consulted with local community groups.
Out of the 3,218 answers they received only 21 negatives – all the rest supported the proposal to retain Midmar Paddock as a green open accessible space.
The local plan has now been formally registered by the council – only the second to be ratified in this way.

We met Miriam Margolyes
Ms Margolyes was handing out the awards at the Popcorn Writing Awards 2025 (and delivered an award of her own which was a bit off script!)
She first of all told the presenter how to announce the thanks (“more slowly it is a lot to take in”) and the names of those who were on the shortlist. Sadly the winners – the writers of Hot Mess – were not there in person but the cast of the show was there and two of the performers obliged us by saying how pleased they were.
And Ms Margolyes completed her off script moments by plugging her own show Margolyes and Dickens: More Best Bits which is on at the EICC Pleasance until Sunday. There are still some tickets for Sunday… Tickets here.
Hot Mess announced as winner of the Popcorn Writing Award 2025, celebrating new voices at the Fringe. Actors Danielle Steers and Tobias Turley were delighted!
