On Wednesday 27 August 2025, Road Policing officers attended a single vehicle collision on the southbound M90 at Scotstoun.
In order to facilitate the safe response of emergency services, Traffic Scotland and recovery teams, lane 2 was closed and a significant quantity of debris was cleared from the carriageway.
As part of this coordinated response, red ‘X’ lane closure signals and flashing red lights were activated on the overhead gantries from Junction 1 (M90/A90 split) to the location of the incident.
During this time, Road Policing officers observed a number of motorists, including professional drivers, who failed to comply with the mandatory lane closure and drove into the closed lane, approaching safety vehicles deployed on the carriageway.
Enforcement action was taken as follows:
• Eight fixed penalty notices issued (£100 fine and 3 penalty points).
• One driver reported for failing to comply with the lane closure and for additional road traffic offences.
Police Scotland would like to remind all road users that a red ‘X’ signal indicates that the lane is closed. Failing to comply with these signals is both unlawful and dangerous, placing lives at risk.
