Robert Douglas won his third men’s championship title at Balerno Bowling Club, after a real scare, in a game played in blustery conditions.

The self-employed window cleaner was 14-5 ahead after 13 ends, but defending champion, Tom Murray, battled back to level at 17-17 after 21 ends in a three-hour final.

Semi-retired gardener, Murray, seeking his fourth win in the championship, then edged 19-17 ahead at the 23rd end, but Robert kept his cool to record a four at the next, the clinching bowl requiring a measure.

Douglas (pictured) had previously won the coveted silverware in 2013 and 2021.
