Police in the Lothians and Scottish Borders are reminding the public that it is an offence to intentionally or recklessly damage, destroy, or interfere with the nest or eggs of any wild bird
In recent weeks, there have been several reports across the area regarding birds, their nests and eggs having been disturbed or destroyed during this year’s nesting season, which runs roughly from 1st April to 1st August.

Police Constable Whitby, the Wildlife Crime Coordinator said: “We urge everyone to respect our wildlife and leave nesting birds undisturbed. Whether you are out walking, working in the countryside, or enjoying nature, please be mindful of birds and their habitats—protecting them is essential for their survival.
“Extra caution should be taken when undertaking any landscaping work, particularly when involving trees and hedges.
“If anyone has any information or witnesses’ similar incidents, please report to Police via 101, Contact Us or Crimestoppers.”
