Brian Rice has been appointed head of football operations at Livingston and manager David Martindale said: “It was paramount that we created this role.”
The former Hibee will lead on player recruitment and provide a valuable line of communication between the board and the first-team management. The appointment follows a structural review.
Martindale said: “We identified that we were a bit fragile in terms of player recruitment and player ID. We will be looking at how and where we can strengthen the squad on an on-going basis.
“It’s not easy and an ever demanding role in the modern game. I must offer a massive thanks to the board for finding a way to make this happen.”
Whitburn-born Rice joined The Lions as a first team coach in November 2023 after spells as an assistant at Morton, Airdrie, Falkiirk, Hibs and Inverness Cale Thistle. He has been coach at Hamilton and Alloa.
The 61-year-old, who also played for Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City on loan, now swaps the dugout for the boardroom and Martindale said: “He will be a big loss in terms of the daily coaching and match day itself. He will be a huge asset for the football club in this new role.”
