Scottish Labour are very encouraged by the signs of the party’s impending victory in Edinburgh, says MSP Daniel Johnson.

Mr. Johnson, who has represented Edinburgh Southern in Scottish Parliament since 2016, says that the polling is very reassuring for this party, which is projected to win dozens of seats in Scotland.

He said: “We obviously had the exit poll. That is very encouraging and would indicate we’ve got reasons to be optimistic here in Edinburgh. Certainly the early signs are encouraging. So we are we’re very optimistic that we’re going to have a good night in line with some of our expectations that we’ve been building in recent weeks.”

However, Mr. Johnson did warn that, while the polling and rumours of victory are “tantalizing”, nothing is certain until all the votes are counted.

He said: “You get a sense, but you can’t trust it. It’s really not until you hear the returning officer go through the final tallies. It’s a sort of an odd experience. And I have to say, it’s much more relaxing, and you can be a lot calmer when you’re not the candidate at this sort of thing.”

Scottish Labour is projected to take most of Edinburgh’s seats; including those previously held by well-known SNP figures Joanna Cherry and Tommy Sheppard.

The final results will be announced shortly.
