Nominations for the Armadale and Blackridge by-election open on Monday.

The poll follows the death in May of long-serving councillor Stuart Borrowman. 

The vote will take place on Thursday, 22 August. 

Prospective candidates can submit nomination papers between 10am and 4pm from Monday 15 July through to Friday, 19 July 2024.   

Nomination papers can be found via the West Lothian Council website, where you can also find the Notice of Election and other relevant information for candidates and voters. 

 Eligible voters have until midnight on Tuesday, 6 August 2024 to make sure they are registered to vote in the by-election. 

Registering to vote is now very easy. You can register to vote via https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or by calling 0131 344 2500 and the Electoral Registration Office will help. 

Armadale and Blackridge is the western-most of West Lothian’s council wards. The ward is the smallest in the county, with a total population of 14,819.  

Armadale is the largest town in the ward. Other settlements include Blackridge, Westrigg, Westfield on the borders with Falkirk council area and Torphichen. 

It has three councillors. Councilor Borrowman had served as an SNP and  Independent councillor in the ward since 2003. 

The ward currently has another Independent, the former Labour councillor Andrew McGuire first elected in 2017, and Lynda Kenna for the SNP, first elected in 2022.
