The first community run refillery project in North East Edinburgh will open on Wednesday 27 March at Restalrig Lochend Community Hub.

This will be run by volunteers and is the latest in a list of sustainability initiatives set up by the charity.

Locals can bring their containers and then use them to stock up on essentials such as dry foods, toiletries, pet food and cleaning products. All will be on sale at affordable prices.

Tristan Green the Community Action Worker at The Ripple said: “Our goal is to help the community by providing access to good quality, low-cost food. Our stocked items are based upon a community feedback survey which highlighted essential items that local residents struggle to afford in retail quantities.

“The refillery will help local people to save money whilst also supporting the environment by removing the need for single use plastics and reduce food wastage. We’ve been working with local producers including Edinburgh Community Food and Organic Egg Supplier Dave Stoddart to ensure that we’re able to offer the best local produce where possible. Any small profits will be re-invested into community-based projects in the area.

“I’d like to thank all of our amazing community volunteers who give up their time to help run the refillery and we would love to hear from local businesses who might be able to support us with the supply of stock.”

Opening hours Wednesday 11am to 3pm and Thursday 3pm to 7.30pm at The Ripple Project 198 Restalrig Road South EH7 6DZ. Get there with bus services 21, 25 and 34.
