Full details of timetable revisions below, with effect from March 24
Lothian Buses has announced improvements to many of the services across its network to enhance reliability and support customer growth, while creating 50 new jobs at the company.
The change will take effect on the Lothian network from Sunday 24 March, affecting Lothian Buses, East Coast Buses, Lothian Country and Nightbus services.
The UK’s largest municipal bus company, Lothian buses has been based in the city for over 100 years and is one of the region’s largest employers, with over 2,500 staff.

“Responding to customer feedback, we have adapted frequencies and capacity on several routes to ensure that we continue to deliver the best possible service for our customers and the communities we serve.”

Lothian buses services
Revised timetable: 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 14, 16, 21, 24, 25, 26, X26, 29, X29, 30, X31, 33, 34, 37, X37, 38, 44, X44, 46, 47, 47B, 48, 49, 200, 400
Route and timetable changes:
1 Improved Frequency. Monday to Friday morning and afternoon peak frequency increased to every 12-mins, remaining every 15-min during the daytime. Saturday daytime frequency increased to every 15-mins and Sunday to every 20-mins. Monday to Saturday evening frequency increased to every 20-mins.
9 Improved Timetable. Earlier journeys introduced from Muirhouse on Monday to Friday
12 Improved Timetable. Late evening and Sunday journeys introduced between Bristo Square, Duddingston and Portobello.
19 Improved Timetable. Late evening journeys introduced between Leith Street, Lochend, Portobello and Eastfield all week.
22/A Minor Route Change. Following customer feedback, some very early morning journeys towards Gyle Centre Monday to Saturday will be numbered 22A, and will operate via South Gyle Crescent, to serve the Royal Mail distribution centre.
23 Improved Frequency. Monday to Friday daytime frequency increased to every 15-mins.
27 Improved Frequency. Monday to Friday daytime frequency increased to every 15-mins.
31 Revised Timetable. Revised timetable on all days to improve reliability. Later evening journeys introduced for Polton Mill on all days.
X33 Revised Route and Timetable. Service extended from Newtongrange via the A7, New Hunterfield, Aspen Drive to Arniston Engine. As a result of very low customer numbers, buses will no longer serve Jenks Loan/Jeanette Steward Drive at Newtongrange. Morning journeys will terminate at Fountainbridge Port Hamilton instead of Semple Street.
35 Improved Frequency. Monday to Friday daytime frequency increased to every 15-mins.
36 Improved Frequency. Monday to Friday morning and afternoon peak frequency increased to every 20-mins. Later evening journeys introduced Monday to Saturday.
45 Revised Timetable. Later journey introduced Monday to Friday and new hourly Saturday timetable between Heriot-Watt University and Elm Row introduced.
X47 New Service. Monday to Friday peak time only, limited stop service, from Cammo to Frederick Street, direct via Queensferry Road supporting customer growth on this busy corridor.
N26 Revised Timetable. Additional journey each night between the city centre and Seton Sands operated by Marine to increase capacity and help with the reliability of regular Central N26 blocks.
N35 New Service. New NightBus introduced between Ocean Terminal to Heriot Watt University. Two journeys will operate every night (in this direction only). These will be operated by Longstone.
N200 Revised Timetable. The 03:10 journey is retimed to depart Ocean Terminal at 03:05.
East Coast buses
Revised timetable: X5, X6, 113, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128, 140, 141
Major route and timetable changes:
X7 Revised timetable. Monday to Friday an additional evening peak journey is introduced between the Edinburgh and Haddington. The Sunday timetable is improved with more journeys introduced in the morning and the evening.
106 Revised Route and Timetable. Service extended from Queen Margaret University to Fort Kinnaird via A1, with revised timetable on all days.
139 Revised Route and Timetable. Revised route to improve reliability. Buses will only serve Tesco Hardengreen only on journeys from Midlothian Community Hospital.
Lothian Country
Revised timetable: X18, 72, 73, 74, N28
Major route and timetable changes:
43 Revised Timetable. Additional evening journey introduced on all days.
X27/8 Revised and Improved Timetable. Revised timetable on all days to improve reliability. Sunday daytime frequency increased to every 40-mins combined.
X40 Revised Route and Timetable. Revised route between Livingston Centre and Mid Calder via Dedridge East (X27/X28 route). Revised timetable on all days with last journey towards the Royal Infirmary arriving 19:45 and departing 20:20.
