Pavement parking ban comes into effect today

The City of Edinburgh Council will become the first Scottish local authority to enforce the ban on pavement parking.

From today any driver who parks on pavements, on verges, at pedestrian crossings or who double parks will be at risk of a £100 fine. There will be no exemptions, but the council will monitor the new regulations to see if any mitigation measures are required. (But there are exceptions to the government legislation which includes emergency response vehicles.)

The Scottish Government enacted new legislation towards the end of last year to make incorrect parking illegal. It is parking attendants employed by the council who will have the power to issue penalty charge notices to drivers who flout the rules.

The council surveyed more than 5,000 roads in Edinburgh in preparation and have leafleted areas where pavement parking was a problem, hoping that all drivers are ready for the new enforcement. Is it a problem where you live?

Three days of Liberton Hospital Community Consultation events

In partnership with Anderson Bell + Christie, HTA landscape architects, G3 Consulting Engineers and arts organisation WAVEparticle, pop-up events from today will give those living in the area the chance to hear about plans and share views.

The events will take place throughout the day on Monday 29, Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 January in the Malbet, Ellen’s Glen and Carnbee areas of Liberton and an online survey is also available. An illuminated gazebo will be used to pop up in the area and professionals will be on hand to chat with locals there.
