Businessman Henry Cheape (43) has just begun a solo row across the Atlantic from La Gomera to Antigua, aboard his boat PollyAnne, an R25 rowing boat which triumphed last year.

Meanwhile in Edinburgh his supporters at Calton Wealth Management aim to row as much of the 3,000 miles as possible but without getting their feet wet. They will row on simple rowing machines in an effort to raise around ÂŁ15,000 towards Henry’s ÂŁ250,000 goal. Calton which is a financial planning company have adopted the PollyAnne as their main fundraiser for the New Year.

The funds will be awarded to Global Canopy, Sustain and the Nomad Conservation Fund all of which are dedicated to environmental conservation.

Tom Ham, Founder and CEO of Calton, said: “We are firmly behind Henry and pulling for him; this includes a group of Calton team members, clients and friends, including former university rowers. We will be logging miles on rowing machines alongside Henry throughout his weeks at sea – our efforts are nothing compared to his endeavour. I admire Henry taking action to raise awareness and funds for causes that really matter to him. It’s one thing to see a problem, and another to help fix it.

“Henry’s sustainability charities are all fighting to improve the relationship between humans and natural resources and to build a better future. Calton is a future-facing business; we use our expertise to help our clients plan for and navigate uncertainties. One of our key tenets is that good financial planning can help everyone live the life they want to live. The transparency and level of personalisation we provide to our clients correspond with Global Canopy’s mission to raise awareness of the relationship between market forces and the environment.”

Henry said: “I am so touched and delighted that Tom and his team have sought to support me in raising awareness for sustainability and donating such a sum of money. To know I have their support means a lot. I would love to see more businesses come forward and take on the challenge. Let’s see how many miles we can get altogether!”
