Scottish Labour leader, Anas Sarwar, has issued a New Year message in which he predicts that the best days and years are yet to come.

Mr Sarwar said: “2023 was a momentous year, and as we enter 2024 I hope the next 12 months are filled with hope and happiness.

“As we welcome in a new year surrounded by our friends and family, I’m sure that like me, your thoughts are with those who face unimaginable hardship.

“From those suffering in armed conflicts across the globe to those at home struggling to make ends meet.

“Because as we enter 2024 we have inequality, injustice and poverty on the rise.

“Too many families here in Scotland are living in hardship.

“And too many families internationally are living in fear and danger.

“Deep divisions in our society are being exploited by politicians and parties that want to tell you that this is as good as it gets and that somehow change is not possible.

“But they are wrong.

“I believe that as a country our best days and years are ahead of us.

“2024 will be the year of change.

“This can be the year when we turn our back on the politics of division and put people – you and your family – back at the heart of government.

“Because as I travel through Scotland, the message people give me time and time again is that it is time for change.

“And this year that change is possible with a general election.

“A general election that will give Scotland the chance to lead the way in delivering the change our country so desperately needs.

“So from my family to yours, I hope 2024 brings you health, happiness and success.

“Happy New Year.”
