Hibs’ midfielder Stephen McGinn believes that the Betfred League Cup games coming in the middle of international weeks will give him a chance to show the manager what he can contribute to the team.

Hibs started with a victory over Brora Rangers on Wednesday and McGinn managed 60-minutes and today he travels with the squad to meet Cove Rangers looking for more first team action.

Head Coach Jack Ross only has 15-fit players for the game so the former St Mirren player is likely to feature and build up his game time.

Hibs then meet Forfar Athletic on Tuesday to complete three games in six-days.

The five international players will return for next week’s visit to Dingwall and McGinn is determined to remain in the squad and contribute to Hibs’ impressive start to the league campaign.

McGinn told Hibernian TV:  “With my surgery in January and lockdown it’s been a stop-start year and it’s been a really long time since my last game so it was brilliant to get an hour in the bag (against Brora Ranger) and I really enjoyed it.

“I really enjoyed playing at Easter Road under the lights and am looking forward to the next one.

“This is a chance for me to get a couple of games under my belt and if I can show the manager that I can contribute and add maybe something different in midfield then that might keep the boys on their toes.

“We know where we are going this season and where we want to be and the boys have been producing up to now and long may that continue.

“You get a sense of this club from being lucky enough to come to watch (brothers) John and Paul in big games so I know the expectation.”
