Hibs’ midfielder Stephen McGinn made his debut for the club in last night’s 3-1 win over Brora Rangers at Easter Road and was ‘delighted’ to get 60-minutes on the pitch.

McGinn, whose brother Paul was on the bench missed a large part of last season due to a serious injury and joined up with former manager Jack Ross after being freed by St Mirren.

Initially he did pre-season training with the club in an effort to get fit but his attitude and ability persuaded Ross to give him a contract until the end of the season.

After the final whistle he told Hibernian TV: “ It’s been a long time since I played a competitive game and I am absolutely delighted to get the 60-minutes in the bag.

“I felt good. I knew generally before the game that it was going play about 60-minutes.

“I was delighted with large bits of it and am really pleased with how it went and how I feel now.”

Hibs enjoyed the vast majority of possession but McGinn was quick to paise the efforts of the Highland League players.

He continued: “You can see why Brora Rangers have been so successful in the Highland league. They are well organised. Everything we spoke about at the start of the night like if we got early goals we could really punish them but to be fair to them at 2-0 they stuck to their guns and kept at it and we found it really hard.”

McGinn was replaced on the hour mark by former St Mirren team mate Kyle Magennis and he admitted that he was happy to see him join the club earlier this week.

He added: “You could see right away that some parts of the game when he came on was Kyle at his best. Real aggressive and tenacious and goes in for some balls that he probably shouldn’t go in for and he has a good range of passing so he will really compliment what we have got here and I am delighted to team up with him again.”

The midfielder is likely to be involved again on Saturday when Hibs travel to the Highlands and he is not expecting an easy game.

He added: “We are expecting a really tough game against Cove Rangers on Saturday and we need to go up another level to get the result we are after.”
