The pair have been drawn in Group B alongside Cove Rangers, Forfar Athletic and Dundee.

The eight group winners and four best runners-up progress to the second round, where they are joined by the four clubs competing in Europe – Celtic, Rangers, Motherwell and Aberdeen.

The seeded teams in the last 16 are the four European clubs and the four group winners with the best records.

The tournament reverts to a traditional knock-out format from the second round onwards, with ties decided by extra time and penalties if the scores are level after 90 minutes.

County chairman Roy MacGregor told BBC Scotland: “I just felt they are our neighbours, part of our Highland way of life, and I should reach out to them.

“We reached out to them and they were very grateful for it.

“The challenges facing Ross County are the same as the challenges facing them, but we get television money that these clubs don’t and we should try and share it at a time where we are all suffering.”
