In a briefing at St Andrew’s House, the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has issued the figures today 12 October 2020 of the number of people diagnosed with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. Today she is joined by Health Secretary, Jeane Freeman.

This follows the first weekend in three with stricter measured introduced on Friday at 6pm. Restaurants and pubs are closed in the Central Belt, and the First Minister has attended a COBR meeting with the UK Government this morning.


The figures as at 12 October 2020 are as follows: 

Number of new cases of Covid-19 reported in Scotland today –  961 new cases which is 17.1% of those tested  

Total number of cases is now 39,959

Number of deaths reported today of people who have tested positive –  0 deaths registered yesterday but a reminder that registration offices are closed on a Sunday.  (With 6 deaths since Friday this means a total of 2,550 deaths in total under that measurement.) 

Number of people in Intensive Care Units in Scotland –  36

Number of people in hospital with recently confirmed Covid-19 – 487

Public Health Scotland confirmed that the number of new cases in Lothian is 112
