Hibs legend Keith Wright named his top XI players that he played with during his career in an entertaining question and answer session over Lockdown Live on Zoom this morning.

Interviewed by Matt Ramsay of Glasgow Sport the former striker told of supporting Hibs as a youngster and idolising his hero Jimmy O’Rourke who subsequently had to break the news that he was not being retained as a teenager.

Wright eventually joined Raith Rovers then Dundee where he struck up a prolific partnership with Tommy Coyne.

He then turned down a big money move to high flying Aberdeen to join his boyhood club under Alex Miller playing 174 league games for Hibs, scoring 59 goals.

In his first season Wright scored in every round of the League Cup and reminisced about the winner against Walter Smith’s Rangers side in the semi-final at Hampden then returning to the national stadium along with 40,000 Hibs fans to life the Skol/League Cup.

He also won a runners up medal in the League Cup final against Rangers at Celtic Park two years later.

In 1992 he was capped for Scotland against Northern Ireland.

Wright was inducted into the Hibs’ Hall of Fame in 2012 at the same time as his hero O’Rourke and has subsequently been similarly honoured at Dundee and Raith Rovers.

His chosen starting XI was as follows.

John ‘Budgie’ Burridge the eccentric goalkeeper who helped the club to League Cup success having also won the English League Cup with Aston Villa.

At right back he chose Neil Orr who was signed by Miller from West Ham United for a reported £100,000 and in the centre of defence he picked close pal Gordon Hunter and former Dundee centre half Jim Duffy who later managed him at Hibs.

Graham Mitchell was selected in the left back position.

In midfield Wright chose Pat McGinlay, Michael O’Neil, and close pal Michael Weir who set up his goal against Rangers and the one on the final against Dunfermline that sealed the trophy.

Darren Jackson, who like O’Neil signed from Dundee United and later moved to Celtic for a seven figure fee occupied the number 10 role.

Up front, Coyne who also moved to Celtic and played for the Republic of Ireland in the World Cup partnered Ally McCoist who played alongside Wright for Scotland.

Alex Miller was selected as manager with Jocky Scott as assistant.
