Hibs fans could be back at Easter Road for the home game against Rangers on Saturday 19 September after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon revealed plans to reopen stadiums from 14 September.

A limited number of spectators will be allowed entry to allow for social distancing and at this time it is not known how many fans will be permitted entry.

Hibs have over 10,500 season ticket holders whilst Easter Road holds just over 20,000.

Before that Hibs will have played three home games against Kilmarnock in two days time, then Motherwell on 15th August and Aberdeen on 30th August.

It looks likely that these matches will take place behind closed doors with the action available to watch on Hibs TV and Sky Sports although Ms Sturgeon did open up the possibility that some fans could be allowed to go to games before that to test the safety.

The news will be welcomed by supporters of all teams who have missed live action since the suspension of football in March.

The First Minister said: “It is hoped sports stadiums will be able reopen from September 14, with limited spectators. Some professional events may have fans before then, with Scottish Government agreement, to test the safety of the move.”
