The council have approved naming a street or streets in the new Wimpey development at South Scotstoun in South Queensferry after former Lord Provost, George Grubb.

There is a five year rule on using someone’s name after they have died, but the rules were waived in this case.

Former Lord Provost George Grubb

The planning committee heard that George Grubb, who died in 2018, was a former Liberal Democrat councillor and Lord Provost. In the usual case it would not be possible to use his name until June 2023. He had ties to this geographical area of the Royal Burgh as it was where he lived. It was explained by council officers that there might be few chances within the next three years to name a street in his honour in this particular locality. His family have given their permission.

Cllr George Gordon asked if it might be possible to name a public building instead, but was told that there are no such buildings planned within the 341 home development.

The proposed name will now be added to the series of street names which will be formalised for the development.
