The Care Inspectorate have visited homes run by Erskine in Gilmerton and Bishopton. Both homes passed the audit process – and the Edinburgh home scored the highest possible mark.

The inspection body said that both homes delver excellent care assessing them on the theme of “How well do we support people’s wellbeing?” and “How well is our care and support planning?”

Erskine scored 6 which is the highest mark and The Erskine Home in Bishopton scored Grade 5 which is ‘very good’. Many of the residents at Erskine homes live with dementia and are given person-centred compassionate care by professional staff. There is great use of technology to chart and promote resident health, wellbeing and medicine administration.

Erskine Director of Care Derek Barron said: “Care Inspections are an important part of the regulatory and quality assurance framework for Care Homes across Scotland.  It is therefore a delight when the Care Inspectorate inspect our Homes and give us grades of 6 (Excellent/sector leading) and 5 (Very Good).

“This week I am proud of the dedicated staff across The Erskine Home and Erskine Edinburgh Home for their respective grades of 6 and 5 across two key themes. I was especially pleased with the feedback from both inspections where teamwork, which wraps around our resident’s needs, was mentioned.  I’d like to say thank you to our staff for their dedication to providing excellent care, in the many direct and indirect roles we have here at Erskine”.

Erskine Chief Executive Ian Cumming said: “Everyone at Erskine is incredibly proud of these grades, which emphasise Erskine’s sector-leading role as a Scottish charity. However, we and our armed forces Veteran residents simply would not be in this privileged position, without our army of donors and supporters!

“It is they who help fund and deliver the unique in-house clinical expertise and technology, enhanced staffing ratios and recreational activities which make such a difference to the wellbeing of our residents. We could not achieve this through the National Care Home Contract fee alone.

“We have profound respect for our smaller charity and commercial social care counterparts across the UK, who must strive to meet expected standards and the increasingly complex care needs of wider society, on extraordinarily tight budgets.”
