Claire Miller is an Edinburgh councillor, elected at the most recent council elections. She represents the City Centre Ward.
She is standing as the Green Party candidate in the Edinburgh East constituency.
Here she explains what Greens are campaigning on. She said : “I’m standing in this General Election because I think that absolutely desperately we need to have Green politicians demanding urgent action on climate change.
“That’s top of the agenda for me.
“I’m currently a Green councillor in Edinburgh City Council. I represent people who live in the City Centre ward. And I sit on the Transport and Environment Committee and I’m the transport spokesperson for the Green Group in Edinburgh.
“I used to work in the financial services industry. I worked in RBS for a while and then over in Aegon, which used to be Scottish Equitable. And so this is a bit of a career change for me being a politician.
” I’m really excited about the idea of the work that we’ve been doing in the council to actually reduce traffic. And I think that that would make a big difference in places like Holyrood Park, where actually at the minute it’s still a very big rat run for cars and commercial vehicles which shouldn’t be going through there.
“It’d be great if we could do more to reduce the amount of traffic that we have, particularly in Edinburgh East where, you know, we’re still suffering from illegal levels of air pollution. It’s crazy and we shouldn’t be having to suffer from that.
“It causes health effects. And you know, it’s terrible for people’s well being we need to really change those things.
“I think one of the other really important things that we obviously have to do urgently is campaign for a People’s Vote, the people need to decide how we’re going to move forward with Brexit because the Conservatives have plunged us into a constitutional crisis.
“It has to be resolved. And for me, it has to go back to the people. We need to have a confirmatory referendum to show what should happen next.”
