Marc McNulty has joined Sunderland on a season-long loan from Championship club Reading, becoming the club’s fourth signing of the summer.
Linking up with former Hibs’ midfielder Dylan McGeouch, the 26-year-old arrives on Wearside after netting eight goals in just 17 games during a short loan at Hibernian last term.
Hibs’ fans had hoped that a deal could be done to bring the lifelong fans back to the club but their hopes were dashed today.
Paul Heckingbottom had ruled out any move for financial reasons.
Speaking to safc.com, McNulty is hopeful the demands from the red and white faithful can drive him on to continue his hot streak in the north east
“It is an honour to play for such a big club,” he said.
“It’s not gone as quick as I’d have liked but it’s just nice to get it done.
“It was good to go up to the Scottish Premier League and see what it was like. I managed to get some goals, especially in February.
“I’m here at the start of the season and I should get to know the boys well. They will get to know how I play and hopefully that will bring out the best in me.
“One of the main reasons I chose to come to Sunderland was the expectations of the fans, the people at the club and the manager,” he continued.
“I’ve been at clubs like Sheffield United, Portsmouth and Coventry City, there are high expectations because they want you win every game.
“They think you should be in the league above and that you should be getting promoted, so the reason I wanted to come to Sunderland is because everyone knows the club at minimum should be in the Championship.
“I’m here to get promoted – that’s the main thing.”
