The Teapot Trust has been awarded a grant of £7,990 by the DM Thomas Foundation for Young People.

The funding will provide art materials and tools for art therapy for children and young people in hospitals across the UK.

The DM Thomas Foundation for Young People is an organisation devoted to transforming the lives of sick, disabled and disadvantaged young people.

The work that Teapot Trust does includes art therapy in hospitals to make children and young people feel better notwithstanding the chronic conditions they have. The therapy can instil confidence and help the young patients manage anxiety.

This is important funding which will provide emotional and mental health support during their treatment and any stays in hospital. Some of the ways that art is used can help the young people communicate their feelings to their family.

Ruxandra Cazan and Danielle Dasselaar, supporters of the Foundation at Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian, presented the grant on the Foundation’s behalf to Louise Downing and Kirsty Moore from Teapot Trust. The Caledonian has long supported the Foundation’s work with young people in Scotland. Most recently team members took part in the Foundation’s charity bake sale campaign, Easter ChariTEA.

Sarah Randell, Chief Executive at Teapot Trust said, “Here at Teapot Trust we are so very grateful for the support of DM Thomas Foundation for Young People. The grant will be used to purchase vital art materials and tools to enable us to deliver art therapy to children and young people in hospitals across the UK.

“The young patients we work with rely on the Teapot Trust art therapy services for support to help them to build resilience and better cope with both the mental and physical health conditions they are struggling with. Making a lot of mess and being creative is extremely therapeutic and gives these children and young people, as well as their families, an opportunity to express themselves and explore their thoughts and feelings in a safe environment.”
