Permits for grayling fishing on the popular Esk at Musselburgh are available and cost £15.

The season runs from December 26 to March 14 with fishing permitted from Wednesday to Monday, Tuesday is a non-fishing day.

Children up to the age of 12 can fish free if accompanied by an adult permit holder and all fishing is catch and release, fishing is by fly only with one rod per person. Barbless hooks must be used.

Chris Halliday, chairman of the Musselburgh and District Angling Association, said the permit will extend from the Esk estuary to the boundary with Buccleuch Estate almost under the A1, on both banks.

And permits are available at two outlets, Ace Bike Co behind the Brunton Hall and the Open All Hours Convenience Store on the corner of Eskview Road and Riverside Gardens. Look for the green canopy.
