According to the Green Cities Index 2018, Edinburgh is at number five based on the percentage of green space per resident.

Beaten by Prague, Hamburg, Madrid and Vienna Edinburgh has 99.38 square metres of green space for each of its residents.

It is also listed in the top 15 Park Destinations in the world and is top in relation to the amount of public garden space.

The data is presented both as a percentage of the total area of the city and as square metres per person. Green space is split into natural spaces of forest and woodland or nature reserve as well as man-made spaces like parks, public gardens and golf courses.

The data was first produced by Travelbird, which seems to have gone out of business meantime – but our city remains pretty green!
