Dogs are set to be pampered at bars and restaurants across the country tomorrow Sunday August 26 to celebrate National Dog Day.

Scotland has a team of canine ambassadors – Ambassadogs – to show the world we’re dog-friendly. With this much love for man’s best friend – it’s important to make the most of this national day to celebrate our canine companions.

On National Dog Day, bars from St Andrews to Glasgow and beyond will have special treats on offer including a dog-safe herbal tipple, Pawsecco, as well as free biscuits and toys, whereas their human counterparts can celebrate having a canine companion with a sample of Cold Town – a craft beer brewed right here in Scotland.

Venues set for a tail-wagging good time on National Dog Day in Edinburgh include:

–       The Basement on Broughton Street in Edinburgh where all dogs will get free treats but first 10 dogs through the door get a free toy.

–       Element on Rose Street in Edinburgh will be offering free dog treats all day.

To make this National Dog Day extra special, the venues above will also be looking for Scotland’s best human and dog duo. By sharing a picture, tagging the venue and using the hashtag #pawfectdayoot, they will be entered for a chance to win a meal for two (humans) which will be announced on social media.

Kat Stanley Whyte at The Basement said: “We love having dogs in our pubs – they make everyone happier, from the staff to other customers. They are the best-behaved patrons, so we want to make sure they get the recognition they deserve for being our best friends on National Dog Day. We want people to bring their furry friends in to celebrate with us this Sunday and we’ve got plenty of treats to mark the occasion.

“National Dog Day only comes once a year but every day is a day to show our love and appreciation our canine companions. Dogs are welcome every day at our venue and we want owners to know they can have a pawfect day out with them whenever they visit us.”
