The highly acclaimed dancer Richard Winsor is to star in a new stage production of Saturday Night Fever which heads to the Edinburgh Playhouse this autumn.

Winsor, a trained dancer who has starred in several Matthew Bourne productions, will play the part of Tony Manero, famously depicted by John Travolta in the renowned film musical which took the world by storm back in 1977.

Winsor’s notable television work came in the long-running BBC drama Casualty in which he played the part of Caleb Knight from 2014 to 2017.

This new production of Saturday Night Fever is by Bill Kenwright by special arrangement with the Robert Stigwood Organisation. It’s the story of New Yorker Tony Manero, a young, working-class man who lives with his parents, grandmother and sister and works in a dead-end job in a hardware store. He lives for the weekend and fuels his passion for dancing at 2001 Odyssey, a discotheque in Brooklyn in downtown New York where he is king of the dance floor.

The musical features some the Bee Gees’ greatest hits from the film including Stayin’ Alive, How Deep Is Your Love, Night Fever, and More Than a Woman as well as 70’s favourites Boogie Shoes, and Disco Inferno. The musical will also feature a group playing the Bee Gees live on stage.

Whilst paying homage to the famous film, this new stage version promises more drama, more music and hot new choreography.

Saturday Night Fever is on at the Edinburgh Playhouse from 23-27 October 2018. Tickets here.
