Assembly have a few very different venues for you to experience the Fringe this year. We got to try out one of them in George Square Gardens last week. The large Treehouse in the corner of the garden proves to have a great view for people watching!

During August it will stage two shows from The Handlebards the world’s first cycling theatre company: Romeo and Juliet from 15th to 19th August and Twelfth Night from 22ndto 26th August at 1pm.

Now they have told us about their other new places to see and be seen.

The Bubble, which replaces the Omnitorium behind George Square Theatre, will provide a great new intimate space for theatre, cabaret and comedy for Soho Theatre’s Drip Feed, James Hancox, A Slightly Isolated Dog’s production of Don Juan, Michael Griffiths, Gingzilla and Tom Lenk in Tilda Swinton Answers an Ad on Craigslist.

Outside the Assembly Rooms on George Street ‘Sip & Slide’ – Assembly’s new high level Helter Skelter – invites participants to climb to the top and take in some spectacular views across the New Town. Afterward they can either take the stairs, or slide back down to the ground in a matter of seconds.

Also, new on George Street is The ‘Blue Room’ – a state-of-the-art black box theatre space with a raked auditorium and 132 seats, where audiences can enjoy Gandini’s new juggling show Gibbon, a cappella from the AlleyCats, and Korean theatre.

William Burdett-Coutts, Director of Assembly Festival said:  “Heading into my 40th fringe I am delighted and excited by our festival programme. To ensure that Edinburgh maintains its reputation as a world-class destination and that audiences in their thousands continue to flock to the Fringe in August, we need to constantly think about reinvention. This means investing in huge amounts of infrastructure, building new relationships and developing new ideas to ensure that every year we have a fantastic August”.

Assembly Festival runs from 1 – 27 August 2018. For more information on Assembly’s full programme of events visit www.assemblyfestival.com
