The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, voted best Special Event

The MacDonald Holyrood Hotel in Edinburgh won Best Overall Hotel Accommodation in the UK in the CIE Tours Awards of Excellence.

Norton House Hotel Spa and Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club, both in Edinburgh, earned Hotels of Excellence Awards.

The poll is based entirely on feedback from 15,000 customers who experienced 160 providers of accommodation, dining, tours and attractions throughout the UK.

Awards were given to those providers achieving an average customer satisfaction rating of 90 per cent or more.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo was rated Best Special Event in the UK for the third consecutive year.

Outwith the Lothians, the Atholl Palace Hotel in Pitlochry, Perthshire was named Best Overall Hotel Service and Hospitality and the Jacobite Cruise at Loch Ness bagged Best Loch Cruise award.

The awards were given by Irish coach tour operator, CIE Tours International, to recognise the quality of the UK’s hotels and visitor attractions.

Malcolm Roughead, chief executive of VisitScotland, said: “It is great to see the warm welcome and excellent service provided to our overseas guests being recognised by a company such as CIE Tours, which is making an important contribution to Scotland’s visitor economy.”
