Elite League: Fife Flyers 7, Dundee Stars 0; Belfast Giants 2, Edinburgh Capitals 4; Braehead Clan 1, Coventry Blaze 3

Bottom club Edinburgh Capitals claimed only their fifth win in 44 games this season when they shocked second-placed Belfast Giants 4-2 in the Elite League in Northern Ireland.

Igor Valeyev opened the scoring after nine minutes but Sebastien Sylvestre levelled seven minutes later.

Valeyev scored his second after 29 minutes but Giants hit back six minutes after that through Dustin Johner.

But two final-period goals from Ainars Podzins and Dillon Lawrence, his on an empty net with seven seconds left, secured the win which snapped a nine-game losing streak.

Capitals now entertain long-time league leaders Cardiff Devils at Murrayfield on Sunday (6pm) looking to secure a weekend win double.

Elsewhere, Chase Schaber claimed a treble and Danick Gauthier a double as Fife Flyers closed in on the Gardiner Conference title with a 7-0 victory over arch rivals Dundee Stars.

Braehead Clan lost 3-1 at home to inconsistent Coventry Blaze in the Elite League despite Tyler Scofield opening the scoring after nine seconds.
