Scotland under-16 coach Chris Duncan gambled by withdrawing his goalkeeper with less than five minutes left as his squad trailed the UK Lions 3-1 in the second of three Test matches at Glasgow’s National Hockey Centre.

The move paid off as the home side snatched two late strikes to level at 3-3 and set up a series decider at noon on Sunday also at Glasgow’s National Hockey Centre.

Jake Inglis (Inverleith), Iain McFadden (Highland) and captain Alex Wilson (Perthshire) scored for the Scots who have eight East of Scotland-based players in the squad.

Inglis, who is at Edinburgh Academy, was particularly impressive, his darting runs into the Lions den causing real problems.

Edinburgh-based Chris Duncan, the head coach, guided his men to a 2-2 draw in the opening game. They led 2-1 going into the final minutes but lost a late goal.

He said: “We have a young but promising group and the boys are learning all the time so it is great to have competitive games this early in the year.”
