Hibs’ Head Coach Neil Lennon’s half time ‘chat’ with the players on the pitch at Firhill yesterday just before the restart had the desired affect as the team started the second half strongly and opened the scoring within minutes.

After dominating the first half without creating any clear cut chances, Lennon explained exactly what was required and the players responded.

Although there was only one goal between the teams, Hibs had several good chances to wrap things up at Firhill but the three points ensured that Lennon’s men leapfrogged rangers into third place, only one point behind Aberdeen.

The large travelling support were delighted to welcome back popular defender Darren McGregor who more than justified his selection and earned praise from the boss.

After the game he told Cliff Pike from Hibs TV: ” I thought that in the last 20 minutes of the first half, possession wise we were dominant. I wasn’t happy with the final ball or our decision making so I wanted more.

“I had a little chat with them out on pitch and got the reaction I was looking for.

“We need to put teams away though when we are in the ascendency.

“To be fair though, some of our football was excellent. It’s another brilliant win which is important in the context of the season where we are at at the minute.

“We are creating a lot of good chances and there is a flow. Technically they are in a good place. Fitness wise the boys are in a good pace and there is a confidence about the team today.

“”It was a brilliant win. We are third now putting pressure on the teams around us. Going into a difficult week it was important to win the game today.

“We deserved to win and we deserved to win last week. There was a little bit of frustration last week having played so well but we got what we deserved today.

“Darren McGregor was outstanding. He was totally unflustered and strong and read the game very well. It is great to have him back and it’s a great boost for us.

“I was pleased with Slivka. He got better as the game went on. Young Oli Shaw came on as a substitute and did a great job for us as well. I’m really pleased with the young lads. Ryan Porteous and Fraser Murray are coming along as well which gives us good depth.
