Portobello & Craigmillar Neighbourhood Partnership are giving local people the power to decide how £21,737 of Community Grants will be spent .

Local groups with a good idea about an event or a project t hat will benefit the ir community should bid now . Applications will close on 27 December 2017.

There are two options available. Groups can bid for up to £1,500 or make a smaller bid of up to £500, for example, to buy a piece of equipment the group needs . Groups who apply for the higher amount should note that a member of t he group must attend the voting event on Saturday 3 February, for their bid to be included.

The aim is to give local people a chance to speak to projects and find out more about what they are planning to do , before they vote.

On Saturday 3 February, young and old across the area will vote for the work they want to see delivered. The groups who win the most votes will be awarded the money.

This time, the voting will take place in the East Neighbourhood Centre , 101 Niddrie Mains Road, from 1 pm – 3 pm. Young people from Portobello who are aged 16 and under , will be able vote on the same day in Portobello Library.

We want to encourage people to turn up, see what’s on offer and to find out what groups are hoping to do in the area.

Information is available on the Partnership website here.

The nineteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Infinity War is a sequel to 2012’s The Avengers (the fifth highest grossing film of all time) and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron (the seventh highest grossing film of all time). The ensemble sees the Avengers (which includes Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, and Black Widow) team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to battle supervillain, Thanos. One of the world’s biggest and beloved movie franchises, Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.

Filmed partly on location in Edinburgh over seven weeks, Avengers: Infinity War was the largest and most complex shoot ever to film in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town and city centre. The production saw over 400 crew members working on the shoot, following three months of pre-production and several months of preparation in advance of this, working closely with Film Edinburgh and the City of Edinburgh Council. In total the production generated an estimated £10 million plus for the city region in economic impact.

Alastair Grant’s article in yesterday’s print edition of The Herald said that the volunteers would get reasonable expenses and a personalised certificate.
