Hibs midfielder John McGinn was disappointed to leave Celtic Park with only a point after his two goals looked to have ended the Hoops unbeaten domestic record yesterday.

Only a late Callum McGregor strike saved Celtic’s record but McGinn believes that the performance demonstrates that Hibs can go into the Betfred League Cup semi-final with confidence after more than matching the champions in Glasgow.

He also pointed out that Hibs have only lost one game this season and with a tough run of games coming up after the international break McGinn believes that the opposition teams will not be looking forward to facing Neil Lennon’s men.

Hibs face Aberdeen at Easter Road on 14th October then Celtic at Hampden the following Saturday with the first Edinburgh derby three days later.

After the game McGinn told Hibernian TV: ” We are chuffed to get a result here but we are a bit disappointed at the same time. We had the chance to come here and get three points and we let it slip with a sloppy goal but Celtic are a a top top team. To come here and give them a game like we have done is a massive credit to the boys.

“Going into the semi-final shows that we can compete with them. It was a pleasure to play in front of 60,000 people with the Hibs fans in the corner enjoying it as well.

“My first goal was probably the most forward I got in the whole game. Marv (Marvin Bartey) laid the ball off perfectly and I managed to get the ball into the corner. I was delighted with it. I just had to get a clean strike on it and caught him (Craig Gordon) unsighted.

“At that point we were just glad to get back into the game. I wasn’t expecting to go 2-1 up but thankfully we did that as well and we got a good point at the end of the day.

“The second goal, the ball was sitting there and I thought why not? I caught it well and it was one of those ones you hope goes in and thankfully it did after the keeper got a touch to it.”

“We’ve been on a great run and we’ve only been beaten once this season. We have played the majority of the top teams in the league and we have a hard run of games coming now so if we can prove that we are a top club people will not want to face us.”
