Irn-Bru Cup, Saturday 2nd September 2017 – Paisley 2021 Stadium

Hearts Under 20s interest in this season’s Irn-Bru Cup came to an end in Paisley on Saturday afternoon when they lost 3-1 to St Mirren.

Premiership clubs can only enter their Under 20 teams in this competition whereas clubs outside the top flight can play their full side. St Mirren were too strong for the young Jambos and won thanks to two goals from former Hearts striker Gavin Reilly with another former Tynecastle hit-man John Sutton getting the other. Another former Hearts player, Adam Eckersley, was also in the Buddies’ side.

Hearts strike came from Rory Currie.

St Mirren: Stewart, Demetriou, McGinn, Buchanan, Smith, Baird, McShane, Hilson, Reilly, O’Keefe, Eckersley.

Hearts U20s: Mason, Brandon, Sandison, B. Gajda, Hamilton, Petkov, Morrison, Beith, Currie, Paton, Moore.
