This weekend the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is organising the Great British Beach Clean and here in Edinburgh you can join in at Wardie Bay Beachwatch at Granton Harbour.

The event takes place between 13.30 to 16.00 on Sunday 17 September 2017.

Most of what is there to pick up is plastic. It never goes away but gets broken into smaller pieces.

MCS is separately campaigning to ban the microbes in all personal care products. Nurdles are the lentil sized pellet used to create all plastic products and these end up polluting the sea. There are reports of increasing numbers in nurdles found in the Firth of Forth.

Ben Macpherson MSP for Edinburgh Northern and Leith will join volunteers on Sunday.

Anyone wanting to take part in the beach clean at Wardie Bay can find out more by contacting Karen Bates, email: wardiebaybeachwatch@gmail.com or you can sign up at: www.mcsuk.org/beachwatch/beach/wardie- bay/event/2017-09-17 .
