Caly Robertson scored three for Capitals at Dundee. In this picture he is playing for Great Britain.

Adam Nichol is making a real mark in ice hockey despite the youngster being only 12 years-of-age.

The Edinburgh-based forward starred for both the Murrayfield under-16 and under-14 sides at the weekend.

In fact, the talented young player was Man of the Match in both games.

Ian Haddock tells me that Adam was outstanding in the under-14 fixture against Ayr Bruins which Murrayfield won 8-3.

And he switched to the under-16 squad to play the same team in a 28-0 victory and again impressed on his debut.

Meanwhile, a number of Murrayfield players took part in the Scotland under-age trials at Dundee at the weekend.

Names of those selected will be published soon and this is the start of the pathway which leads to the Great Britain squads.

Other highlights on the horizon for the youngsters include games against teams from England in the Spring of next year.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh Capitals Scottish National League (SNL) squad thrashed Dundee Tigers 10-2 on Tayside with Fife-born Caly Robertson helping himself to a treble.

Jordan Steele scored two goals with Aaron Robertson, Caly’s brother, Ross Hay, Joel Gautschi, Steven Clark and Dean Walker contributing singles.

Coach Martin Cingel said: “That’s six points now out of six and this is an excellent start to our season.”

Next Sunday, the SNL Capitals entertain Kirkcaldy Kestrels (8.30pm) on Sunday and Cingel said: “This is a major test and we will be doing everything we can to keep the points in Edinburgh.”
