A police investigation is underway after  a suspicious letter was delivered to the Palace of Holyroodhouse earlier this afternoon.

A number of fire engines attended the scene and police cordoned off the street outside the Palace however this road has now been reopened.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police in Edinburgh were called to the Palace of Holyroodhouse  around 12.05pm on Wednesday, June 7, after reports were received that a suspicious letter had been delivered.

“Emergency services are in attendance and enquiries are ongoing.”
