A book sale and festival at Nicolson Square in Edinburgh is planned to raise cash for Christian Aid Week in May.

It joins the two successful second-hand book sales that have been held in Edinburgh during Christian Aid Week every year for more than 40 years.

They are at St Andrew’s and St George’s West on George Street and at Holy Corner.

The sale at George Street has raised more than £2m since it started in 1974 and The City of Edinburgh Methodist Church at Nicolson Square is now going to provide a new sale location in the south east of the city which will run from 13-19 May 2017.

There will also be talks and events running alongside the sale and this will give the week a flavour of a mini book festival.

Deacon Belinda Letby, minister of the City of Edinburgh Methodist Church said: “We’re really excited about becoming part of this fantastic Edinburgh event.”

Sally Foster-Fulton, Director of Christian Aid Scotland, said: “The Christian Aid book sale and festival in Nicolson Square adds a different dimension to this great Christian Aid Week tradition in Edinburgh.

“There is something quite important in the power of story to change hearts and minds and actions.”
