A man who was arrested during a policing operation to tackle organised crime in Edinburgh has been jailed at the Sheriff Court in Edinburgh today.

Mark Richardson was sentenced to six months in prison for obstructing officers while they executed a drugs warrant at an address in Tait Wynd on Friday 30th October 2015.

The 29-year-old attempted to dispose of a mobile phone down a toilet while officers searched the property, but was stopped from doing so.

Detectives and local officers within Edinburgh launched Operation Amyloid to target organised crime groups responsible for various offences including drug supply and as a result of the activity, over Ā£100,000 worth of diamorphine was seized along with Ā£2,000 worth of cannabis and Ā£10,000 in cash.

In addition, stolen property valued at around Ā£2,000 was also recovered.

In total, 23 people were charged with a variety of offences during the Operation Amyloid enforcement action on 30th October 2015.

Detective Chief Inspector Kenny Gray from the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit in Edinburgh said: “This operation was a collaboration of OCCTU and local resources to tackle drug crime and associated offences across the Capital.

“During our searches of an address in Tait Wynd, Mark Richardson deliberately attempted to dispose of evidence but was ultimately unsuccessful and now finds himself serving a custodial sentence.

“Edinburgh’s communities have made it abundantly clear they will not tolerate organised crime and Police Scotland will continue to utilise all of its local and specialist resources to bring those involved in crimes of this nature to justice.

“If you would like to report ongoing criminal activity in your area then please contact Police Scotland on 101 or make an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
