A police investigation is underway after a 20-year-old man was assaulted on Pennywell Gardens around 5.15am this morning.

Officers are keen to trace  four men in connection with the attack.

The victim is currently being treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for injuries which are described as minor and he is expected to be released today.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers were called to the Muirhouse area on Sunday after a man was assaulted in the street.

“The incident happened at around 5.15am on Pennywell Gardens and resulted in the 20-year-old sustaining minor injuries.

“Enquiries are at an early stage, however officers are following a positive line of inquiry in an effort to trace four men who were seen in the area.

“Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact police on 101.”
